Sony - net loss of 7.3 billion yen
| Sony has been battered by the effects of plunging retail prices of digital cameras and flat-screen televisions. These products were supposed to be the saviours of the electronics industry, but have instead left the sector with over-capacity problems and an inability to maintain margins as manufacturers from Japan and South Korea churn out the technology at record speeds. |
I personally think digital camera had reached its maturity and Sony faces a lot of challenges where they lost their competitive edges in the compact digital camera area. Another reason is Sony failed to catch the ride of DSLR. Camera enthusiast, amateurs or beginners, can get their hands on an affordable DSLR especially with the introduction of Canon Rebel 350D and the Nikon D70s.
I sold my Sony 707 after using it for 3 years. I felt I needed extra photo capabilities that a prosumer digital camera has, and the price of Canon 300D then was cheaper than a new Sony 828 so I switch over to DSLR.
